Sophia Buck is a Junior Research Fellow in Modern and Comparative Literature at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. Her recent publications concern the literary and visual culture of the 20th century, entangled European history of ideas and literary theory, material research culture and intercultural histories of disciplines. Her new research project on UK German and Slavonic as 'enemy studies' investigates how military and political antagonism historically interacted with academic practices and material research cultures. Investigating cultural reception across the Iron Curtain, she studies Kafka's afterlife perpetuating dynamics between (re)embodying literature or (re)metaphorising life in Soviet Socialist contexts.
